about the artist

Petra Schott

Petra Schott lives in Frankfurt/M and has her studio in the Atelierhaus Offenbach, Bettinastr 71. She studied fine arts at the Kunsthochschule Kassel and has participated in national and international exhibitions since the 90s. Petra Schott's works revolve in a sensual-emotional way around visions, ideas and longings in the past and present. She draws her inspiration from her preoccupation with people or from the nature that surrounds them. The language of lines, condensed into drawing or writing, represents a kind of compass and structural element. It is intuitively juxtaposed with painted color surfaces and then develops processually in painting: allowing what shows itself, discarding it again, painting over it transparently or letting it merge into something new. In her painterly representation Petra Schott seeks freedom, liveliness and intensity. She wants to touch and shake, make hidden and mysterious visible, ask questions. In her works, themes of human existence find expression: love, death, vulnerability, memory, longing, transience. She also traces the unclear, chaotic and gives these search movements painterly expression. Her painting style is abstract. She prefers because of the convincing color effect classical painting techniques with natural Materials, such as oil painting and painting with egg tempera and pigments.
